Why use a doula?
Mothers typically experience a more satisfying birth experience, feeling very supported, which in turn encourages better bonding and a quicker healing process after pregnancy. Babies born with the support of a qualified doula tend to have an easier time breastfeeding, which has countless benefits to both mom and baby.

That's great, but just what does a birth doula do?
The word "doula" comes from ancient Greek, meaning "a woman who serves." In our modern day, it is used to refer to a trained, professional labor assistant who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the pregnant woman before, during, and after birth.
A doula incorporates various comfort measures, and relaxation techniques in order to help the mother have an enriching and memorable birth experience. The doula does not take the place of the father or labor partner. Rather, she allows this individual to participate based on personal levels of comfort.
